The offered blazing red Gianni Versace Couture suit was owned and worn by Prince in the 1990s, and it emanates from the personal collection of his first wife Mayte Garcia. The suits angular lines are accentuated by the flared sleeves--a favorite look of Prince's--and the pants finish the presenation with two almost claw-like cutaway sheer openings on each hip.

The suit is accompanied by a letter of authenticity signed by Mayte Garcia and by Chris Davidson, President of "Prince: The Collection." The letter states:

This red Gianni Versace Couture suit with matching pants (42) was purchased and worn by Prince in the mid 90s. The outfit was made by one of his favorite brands which was Versace. Prince's love for fashion and clothes is well documented. Prince's first wife, Mayte Garcia wrote in her book The Most Beautiful: My Life with Prince, "We would drive down Melrose in a limo and at each shop pick up racks of clothes under the 'fast and plenty' approach. His security would handle the details. On occasion he would even swipe my clothes and alter them to fit him often adding shoulder pads. The best styles and sizes for him were often found by myself in the women's department." Prince attended fashion shows on a regular basis; his favorite were the ones held in Milan, Italy. Pricne was close friends with fashion designer, Donatella Versace and attended several fashion shows with her. This red Gianni Versace Couture suit was obtained directly from his first wife, Mayte Garcia. (An autographed copy of Garcia's book accompanies this lot.)

The coat and pants have their original "Versace" tags on the interior, and the coat also has a "Made in Italy" tag on the interior collar. Both pieces have their size "42" tag intact, and each has the U.S. sizing on the reverse, which is a women's size "8." The suit presents with signs of being worn but with no damage or major distresses. Near Mint to Mint condition.
