At just about any point in the 1970s, Elvis Presley can be seen wearing some version of the offered American Flag lapel pin, from simpler, straighforward versions like this one to the more ornate, jewel-encrusted versions. He took the flag seriously, served proudly in the U.S. Army and wore this pin with pride, undoubtedly. Accompanying the pin is a copy of the August 1, 1979, bill of sale between James Caughly, Jr. and Jimmy Velvet listing 30 items, including the offered pin described as "23. American Flag Pin worn by Elvis Presley." Also included is an “Elvis Presley Museum” certificate of authenticity signed by Jimmy Velvet and dated 1/3/93, which reads in part “This American flag pin was worn by Elvis Presley prior to having one made of rubies, sapphires, and diamonds. It has been on display in the Elvis Presley Museum for several years and was acquired from Elvis' bodyguard, James Caughly, Jr.” The pin measures ¾ x ½ inches and presents with moderate wear but is missing its original backing. Near Mint condition.
