Elton John was able to become Chairman of the Watford Football Club in the early 1980s. He grew up on the outskirts of London near Watford, and they were his team growing up as a rabid football fan. As soon as his fame afforded him the opportunity, he had a stake in the team by 1972, and shared a love of the sport with his close friend Rod Stewart. The offered 1983 FA Cup Final program has been signed by both entertainers on an insert page on the interior. The Watford FC had actually made it to the 5th round of the FA Cup playoffs that year, just a couple of games short of appearing in the final before 100,000 fans at Wembley Stadium the day these autographs were acquired, May 21, 1983. It may have been a bittersweet day for Elton, but he and Rod Stewart still obliged a fan with two beautiful autographs. Stewart is a Manchester United fan, so he was feeling just fine that day. The program is accompanied by an account from the fan whose father received the signatures. A letter of authenticity from Beckett Authentic accompanies. The program measures 6 1/2 x 9 1/2 inches and presents with moderate wear, some binding wear and wrinkling. Technically Excellent condition. That aside, the insert with the signatures is safely tucked away after page 48, and has never seen the light of day. Near Mint condition.
