Offered is a 1950 Wink High School Yearbook featuring two signatures of the young Roy Orbison. Orbison has signed his full name on his portrait among the other 8th graders, and he also wrote a personal message on the inside front cover: "Dear Martha, You are a very nice girl, what I know of you. Lots of Luck, Roy." This yearbook represents he earliest Roy Orbison signatures we have seen to date. Young as he was, Roy had already been playing guitar for eight years--his father bought him a guitar for his 6th birthday. Roy later described the major components of life in Wink, Texas as "football, oil fields, oil, grease and sand", and in later years expressed relief that he was able to leave the desolate town. And leave he did, to pursue one of the most legendary music career in rock and roll history. He really hit his stride in the 1960s writing a string of hits including "Only the Lonely" (1960), "Running Scared" (1961), "Crying" (1961), "In Dreams" (1963), and "Oh, Pretty Woman" (1964). And it's a good thing, because with that clunky "what I know of you" inscription to Martha, that probably wasn't going anywhere. The yearbook measures 8 x 11 inches and presents with only age-related toning to the pages. Excellent to Mint condition.
