Bruce Springsteen's 1975 album Born to Run was a massive success after it was released in August 1975. The record is credited with finally helping Springsteen achieve mainstream success, and it's is considered one of the greatest albums of all time. The offered Columbia Records in-house gold record award's plaque reads "Presented to WCAO-AM in Grateful Recognition for Your Contribution Towards Sales in Excess of One Million Dollars 'Born to Run.'" It was common for record companies to have awards presented not only to the artists, but to record distributors, executives and even radio stations, as in this case, to celebrate the success of an album. From the 1950s through the 1970s, WCAO-AM was a major classic Rock Top 40 station in Baltimore, Maryland. Stations like WCAO playing your artists' records were an essential element of success in the record industry, and labels like Columbia knew how important it was to foster and maintain the relationships. The offered award is a clear sign of that. The RIAA certified the album Gold by October 8, 1975, and the offered award was most-likely produced at that time. The wooden award measures 15 1/2 x 19 1/2 inches and presents  with minor scuffs and scratches. Excellent to Mint condition.
