Offered is an RCA Records In-House Gold Record Award for the 1972 Nilsson single "Without You." The award was given to RCA executive Dennis Katz, who worked with Harry Nilsson during this period. The single was a smash hit for Nilsson, going to number one on the Billboard Hot 100 for four straight weeks in 1972.  Nilsson was nominated for three Grammys in 1973, and won for "Best Male Pop Vocal Performance" for "Without You." When Nilsson first heard the original version of the song, written by Pete Ham and Tom Evans of Badfinger, he mistook it for a Beatles song. After realizing it was a Badfinger song, he decided to cover it, and it ended up on his 1971 album Nilsson Schmilsson.

The award's plaque reads: "Presented to Dennis Katz in grateful recognition for your contribution towards sales in excess of one million units March 1972." Dennis Katz was the head of the Artists and Repertoire Department at RCA Records when the single was released. He worked with Harry Nilsson, and he was responsible for signing other stars such as David Bowie, Lou Reed, The Kinks, Hot Tuna and John Denver. Dennis' brother Steve Katz was a founding member of the band Blood, Sweat & Tears.

The wooden award measures 11 x 15 inches and presents with moderate to heavy wear from improper storage. There are dings and dents in several places to the wood, and the gold record has sustained some lost paint. Very Good condition.
