During just about every concert in the 1970s Elvis would start wiping his brow or his neck with one of his scarves and then hand it to a frantic fan in the front row. It was a part of the show from the earliest part of the decade, though for the first several years Elvis would simply hand out generic satin scarves of varying colors. Eventually, Colonel Parker created blue and white (and a couple of other colors) scarves with Elvis' facsimile signature printed on them and sold them at the souvenir stands. He made sure Charlie Hodge, the TCB band member charged with handing Elvis the scarves to hand to the fans, had a big box of them ready to go on stage each night. The offered white scarf is accompanied by an October 14, 2013, letter signed by Shirley Thomas that reads “I saw Elvis Presley in concert in Dallas Texas on December 28, 1976. This was the last time Elvis would play Dallas for he would pass away the following August. I received a white scarf from elvis that night with his signature [facsimile] on it. Please let this letter serve as provenance that the scarf was originally obtained by me from Elvis Presley during his concert in Dallas.” Included with the scarf: Main Floor Ticket Stub; four 3 1/2 x 5 inch snapshots (period printing) of Elvis on stage in Dallas, “Souvenir Folio Concert Edition,” 3 ½ inch diameter button; 1977 RCA Calendar; Newspaper clipping about Show coming, and “Elvis Photo Album.” The scarf measures 34 x 34 inches and presents with heavy staining, made somewhat darker with age. Excellent condition overall.
