1957 “WAOK” (Atlanta, Georgia Radio Station) 78 RPM 12-Inch Double-Sided Acetate with Two Elvis Presley Advertisements for The March of Dimes

The offered 78 RPM acetate contains two ads for “The March of Dimes” read by Elvis Presley. Elvis was a big supporter of the cause in the 1950s. The ads start off with Elvis saying “Hey, kids, can I talk to you for about 30 seconds? This is Elvis Presley.” He implores listeners to “Join the 1957 March of Dimes today.” The ad finishes with Elvis saying “Now here's a song.” The idea was that the DJ would play an Elvis song immediately following the public service announcement. The acetate's side with Elvis reads “WAOK Atlanta, Georgia” label reads “Elvis Presley / Jan 15 / 1957.” The record also contains five other radio ads for Atlanta department store Kessler's. Kessler's was an a Georgia institution for 84 years, specializing in more affordable wares. The ads are incredibly specific, reading almost like a transcription of a newspaper ad, complete with prices for various products, clothing and toys. This is an interesting relic documenting one of Elvis' earliest and most passionate philanthropic efforts. The disc measures 12 inches in diameter and presents in GD+ with moderate to heavy scuffing and scratches. Playable condition with hissing and some minor pops.
