1955 RCA Victor Promotion LP EZ Pop Programming No. 5 Featuring Elvis Presley’s “Mystery Train” and “I Forgot to Remember to Forget”

Offered is a rarely seen RCA Victor Promotion Record that would have been sent to radio stations in late-1955. The record, titled EZ Pop Programming No. 5, was RCA’s attempt to promote ten or more of its “pop” artists in one fell swoop, with the intention that stations could simply play the whole record to create 30-odd minutes of programming. The 33 1/3 RPM record features two singles from RCA’s most recent acquisition at the time, Elvis Presley: “Mystery Train” and “I Forgot to Remember to Forget.” Sun Records released the single of “Mystery Train” in August of 1955 with “I Forgot to Remember to Forget” on side B. Later that year, in November of 1955, RCA Victor purchased the master records from Sun and released “Mystery Train” again that month, followed by the release of the additional four Sun singles in December of 1955. “Mystery Train” is considered to be the recording that gained Elvis recognition as a country music star. The fact that RCA was promoting Presley on its EZ Pop Programming sampler LPs was an indication that they sensed his broad appeal. Other artists represented on the record include Perry Como, Eddie Fisher and Dinah Shore. The disc measures 12 inches in diameter and presents with only a few very minor scuffs and minor scratches.
