The offered RIAA Gold Award was presented for Elvis Presley's 1974 compilation album Elvis: A Legendary Performer, Vol. 1. The album was the first of three such compilations, and it contained 14 tracks that focused on the earliest era of Elvis' career, even if the recordings themselves were later, live renditions of some of them. Two of the tracks were interview excerpts. It was common for record labels to give copies of record awards to executives, record distributors and retailers, and radio stations that showed support to the label's artists. The offered award was made for one such station, "ROCK 106 FM."

The award's plaque reads “Presented to ROCK 106 FM to Commemorate the Sale of More Than 500,000 Copies of The RCA RECORDS Album, Cassette and C.D. 'A Legendary Performer, Vol. 1.'” Though the RIAA certified the LP gold on January 8, 1975, the offered award was most-likely produced at a later period, perhaps the early 1990s, when CDs were included in the count and often featured in the awards themselves. The award measures 17 x 21 inches and presents with minor scuffing to the frame and plexiglass. Near Mint condition.
