Offered is a beautiful original artwork for the “Fan Fare” newspaper comic strip for May 9, 1957, created by Walt Ditzen for the National Newspaper Syndicate. Ditzen makes a point of sending salutations to his good friend at the end of the comic concerning a golfer with a hair-trigger temper: "HELLO-JACK BRICKHOUSE-CHICAGO, ILL." Brickhouse is known for his play-by-play coverage of Chicago Cubs games on WGN-TV from 1948 to 1981, he received the Ford C. Frick Award from the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1983.
Which friend was the angry golfer is anyone's guess... Ditzen drew the "Fan Fare" cartoon strip. Fan Fare was launched in 1947 (syndicated by the John F. Dille Co.) running until 1961, when it changed title to Fun Fare, running until 1973. Ditzen helped and advised Charles Schulz on the early samples of Charlie Brown. The original artwork measures 7 ¼ x 17 ¾ inches and is framed to 13 x 23 inches. Near Mint condition.
