The offered RIAA Double Platinum Award was presented for Queen's 1978 single "We are the Champions" and its b-side "We Will Rock You." The single was released on October 7, 1977, from Queen's album News of the World, and reached number 4 on the Billboard charts. These songs came to define the rock anthem of the 1970s, and the amazing thing is, Freddie Mercury and Brian May set out to do just that. As May tells the story, he and Freddie discussed the need for a song to get crowds participating, to get them "waving and singing." That night, they both went to their respective hotel rooms to give it some thought. THE VERY NEXT DAY, Freddie Mercury showed up with "We are the Champions," and Brian May showed up with "We Will Rock You."

Normal awards for Gold and Platinum singles show the a-side of the 45. The offered RIAA Double Platinum Award features both sides of the Queen single to demonstrate the historic intertwined impact of the two songs. It's one of most elegant RIAA awards every offered. The plaque reads "Presented to FREDDIE MERCURY to Commemorate the Sale of More Than 2,000,000 Copies of the ELEKTRA RECORDS Single Record 'We are the Champions' b/w 'We Will Rock You.'"

The award measures 21 1/2 by 15 1/2 inches and presents with some moderate scuffs and scratches to the silver finish on the wooden frame.
