The offered RIAA Gold Record award did double duty being presented for Madonna's 1989 LP Like a Prayer and single "Like a Prayer." The album was a huge success, eventually selling more than 15 million copies worldwide. Six singles were released from the album: the title track, "Express Yourself", "Cherish", "Oh Father", "Dear Jessie", and "Keep It Together". "Like a Prayer" became Madonna's seventh number-one hit on the US Billboard Hot 100, while "Express Yourself" and "Cherish" peaked at number two and "Keep It Together" became a top-ten hit.
RIAA certified the single Gold on May 16, 1989, and certified the album Gold a week later. The offered award was created during that time, based on the style, and inclusion of the cassette tape. The elaborate display's plaque reads "Presented to MADONNA to Commemorate the Sale of More Than 500,000 Copies of the SIRE RECORDS Album and Single 'Like a Prayer.'" This combo award is a highly unusual example an RIAA display for a Gold record. Perfectly fitting for the artist.
The display measures 25 x 17 inches and presents with just a few scratches to the blue frame. Near Mint condition.
