Offered is a wonderful Velvet Pipe and Cigarette Tobacco advertising broadside featuring baseball Hall of Famer Mel Ott. The poster promoted the popular tobacco brand during the 1940's as a "Better Tobacco for a Smoker's Merry Christmas" with "Mel Ott New York Giants Popular Manager." Ott managed the Giants from 1942 to 1948, dating the broadside to that period, during the final seasons of his 22 year playing career when he amassed 511 home runs, 2876 hits with a lifetime .304 batting average. The poster measures 11 5/8 x 20 ¾ inches and presents with minimal wear to the front, with bright, vibrant colors. There are a few small spots of unobtrusive paper loss on the front. The back has signs of being mounted previously, but this distress does not affect the front. Excellent to Mint condition.
