Muhammad Ali transceded his place as one of the greatest sports champions of his time to becoming a worldwide icon for peace and social justice. Before illness incapacitated him, Ali was asked to give speeches frequently all over the world. The offerd index card is from one of those speeches, most-likely in the early 1980s. The handwritten text on the notecard numbered “14” reads “The lack of knowledge of self is one of our main HANDICAPS. We still call ourselves by the slave masters names. They have called us by their names and nicknames...” Rejection of “slave masters names” was cited by Ali as motivation for his name change in the earliest days of his conversion to Islam. The notecard measures 8 x 5 inches and has been encapsulated as “AUTHENTIC” by PSA/DNA. Near Mint to Mint condition.
