February 4, 1963, Elvis Presley Signed $100 Check for “Cash While Making Para. Movie ‘Fun in Acapulco’” - with Graceland Authenticated LOA

Offered is a check, dated Feb 4, 1963, made out to “Cash” and signed “E.A. Presley” for one hundred dollars. Elvis signed the check while in Hollywood filming his 1963 movie Fun in Acapulco. Elvis’ scenes were all shot in the at the Paramount studios because Elvis was persona non grata in Mexico after rumors of Elvis making disparaging remarks about the county caused brawls between fans in theaters. A double was employed to film all of the on-location scenes for the movie. The National Bank of Commerce in Memphis check is hand numbered “2” in the upper right and bears the handwritten number in red ink “914” in the upper left corner. The handwritten note at the lower left reads, “Cash while making Para movie ‘Fun in Acapulco’.” Per this notation, the funds were used as pocket money during Elvis’ time in Hollywood for the filming. The movie was distributed by Paramount in November 1963 and was the top-grossing musical film that year. The reverse of the check has several cancellation stamps in addition to the signature “J.S. Bernstein.” The check measures 2 3/4 by 6 1/4 inches, has been encapsulated by Beckett Authentic, and is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated. This check emanates from the Graceland Archives. The check presents with expected wear from cancellations and handling, but no major defects. Near Mint condition.
