The offered trio of official police badges belonged to Elvis Presley, and the emanate from the collection of his personal nurse Letetia "Tish" Henley. Elvis support for and interest in law enforcement is legendary, and he owned countless badges, patches and even revolvers and nightsticks that were given to him when he would meet police officers from all over the country. These three were eventually given to Tish Henley one night when she and Elvis were together at Graceland. Her accompanying certificate of authenticity tells the story:
One evening when Elvis had nothing to do, I had him get out his collection of Police Patches. After a couple of hours of organizing them, we put them in the book I had purchased. There were several duplicates, and he gave them to me as Tommy, my husband, was a former Policeman with the Memphis Police Department. These three patches are from my collection.
The patches are from the Memphis, Savannah, Georgia and Charlotte, North Carolina. The patches were previously sold in another auction, and that lot tag is also included. The patches were featured in Tish's book Takin' Care of Elvis, and a color copy of the page is included, as well. The patches measure: Memphis 3 x 2 3/8 inches; Savanah 3 3/4x 2 ¾ inches; 4 x 3 ½ inches. They all present with a small piece of Velcro on the reverse. Excellent condition.
