The offered theater window card movie poster features Elvis “his first big dramatic singing role” promoting the 1957 MGM film Jailhouse Rock. Elvis portrays Vince Everett, our anti-hero, seen on this window card, staring off into the distance and contemplating the trials and tribulations of an ex-con turned singing star. The US Jailhouse Rock promotional pieces were masterpieces of design for the era, and this example is no exception. The movie catches Elvis in his prime, in full ascension to super-stardom as both actor and musical performer—this poster embodies that spirit as you take it all in. Unlike most window cards, which were used to advertise show dates and times for specific theaters, this example lacks the typical handwritten information in the blank area at the top and remains unmarred by promotion for the local theater showtimes. The window card, measuring 22 by 14 inches, is stored flat and is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated (quoted here). The window card was folded across the center, leaving a fold line and some chipping, and also exhibits some light toning. The bright red has faded slightly. There is heavy toning from improper storage on the reverse, but this does not impact the front artwork. Excellent condition.
