Offered is one of the more unusual rings we have ever seen among Elvis Presley's massive jewelry holdings: a 14K gold and diamond ring with the number "8" designed out of a set of sapphires. Elvis' interest and passion for numerology is well-known, and his "number" in those disciplines was, indeed, the number eight. This smaller size 9 ring was the predecessor to and inspiration for a much larger and more ornate "8" ring he would have designed at a later time. The ring would have certainly caught his eye when the Las Vegas jewelers came to his room to offer their wares. He eventually gave this ring to his long-time dear friend and Memphis Mafia member Charlie Hodge. The ring is accompanied by a letter signed by Charlie Hodge detailing the circumstances around getting the ring from Elvis that reads in part:

Elvis was very much into numerology. Elvis' number was 8. One evening while we were playing Vegas after the last show he had a couple of the jewelry stores stay open for us. Barda of Milan which was in the Hilton and Thunderbird Jewelers brought over a case of jewelry to the Hilton. Elvis picked out some rings for himself and some of us. One that caught his eye was a gold and diamond blue sapphire ring that had the number8 in blue sapphires. Elvis immediately grabbed that one first. He loved that it had the number 8 and he loved blue sapphires. He wore this one for a long time and then decided he wanted a very big 8 ring, one almost the size of his TCB ring. Once he had the big 8 ring made he gave me the blue sapphire 8 ring. I told him I was 5 in numerology. But he said “5 is smaller than 8, now's your chance to be bigger,” I guess referring to my height. I just laughed and took it.

The size 9 ring weighs 13.4 grams and still has its “14K” stamping on the inner band, though it does show signs of moderate wear. Excellent to Mint condition.
