Offered are a pair of silver goblets that were gifts from the 1939 wedding of Clark Gable and Carole Lombard. On March 29, during a production break on Gone with the Wind, Gable and Lombard were married in Kingman, Arizona. They announced the marriage to the media the next day at their home in Bel Air. The goblets are engraved "LOMBARD & GABLE / A MATCH MADE IN HEAVEN." The storybook Hollywood romance was all too short-lived with the tragic death of Lombard in a plane crash on January 16, 1942. The goblets originate from the collection of noted Hollywood collector and auctioneer Sally Cramier, whose collection was sold in 1997. Copy of the original bill of sale when she acquired the goblets from another collector is included. Also included is a bank deposit slip from the account of "Kathleen G. Gable, Guardian of the Estate of John Clark Gable" which was acquired when the goblets were acquired from the Gable estate. The goblets measure 2 1/2 inches in diameter and nearly 6 inches tall. They present with some moderate to heavy oxidation. Excellent condition.
