Hedda Hopper Signed 1962 Letters to the Same Reader Answering the Same Question!

Offered is an interesting pair of letters from gossip and advice columnist Hedda Hopper to one of her readers--both letters answer the same question asked by the reader! The first is typed and signed on Hedda's personal index card-sized stationary, and dated August 22, 1962. She answers "Mrs. Holtzman's" question about who was the author of an out of print book. The other letter, written less than two weeks later on September 6, 1962, is on Hopper's personal executive stationary answering the same question. In the middle of the letter, Ms. Hopper actually remembers the first letter. After answering the question, she remarks "Have I written this to you before? It seems so as I dictate this note-if I have, the information still holds good and good luck!" At the height of her influence in the 1940s, Hopper's readership was 35 million. Hopper continued to write gossip until the end of her life, her work appearing in many magazines and later on radio. She had an extended feud with another gossip columnist, arch-rival Louella Parsons. Both pieces are accompanied by a COA from Beckett Authentic. The larger letter measures 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 inches and the other measures 5 1/2 x 3 1/4 inches. Both have other writing on their reverses, and while the letter presents with only minor wear, (Near Mint condition) the index card has deep tape stains. Very Good condition.
