Offered is Cecil B. DeMille signed check written on November 1, 1949. The check memo reads “Allowance for Nov 1-30,” and is written to noted genealogist Louis P. De Boer, who was employed by DeMille for many years. DeMille was interested in his family's history, and within his personal archives at Brigham Young University are many pages of correspondence between he and Mr. De Boer, as well as many documents of De Boer's work. Between 1914 and 1958, he made 70 features, both silent and sound films. DeMille is acknowledged as a founding father of the American cinema and the most commercially successful producer-director in film history. His films were distinguished by their epic scale and by his cinematic showmanship. His silent films included social dramas, comedies, Westerns, farces, morality plays, and historical pageants. DeMille received two Academy Awards: an Honorary Award for "37 years of brilliant showmanship" in 1950 and a Best Picture award in 1953 for The Greatest Show on Earth. Accompanied by a COA from Beckett Authentic. The check measures 7 x 3 inches and presents with expected wear from processing and cancellation. Near Mint condition.
