Offered is a beautiful example of an early 20th Century baseball figural trophy with a large engraved image of a baseball player and baseball bats and balls creating the handles for the loving cup. The trophy was awarded for the winner of the Jackson, Mississippi Public Schools Athletic League for the 1912-1915 seasons by Jackson Mayer A.C. Crowder. The names of the winning team have been engraved on the front of the trophy and include "Poindexter" in 1912 and "Jefferson Davis" in 1913-15. The Jackson Daily News actually reported on the very first presentation of the trophy on May 30, 1912, as seen in the image of the article shown here. The trophy is described in the article: "The cup was given by Mayor Crowder, and is a beautiful trophy indeed. It is on exhibition in the window of Seutter's jewelry store. It is about fifteen inches tall, and two bats form the handles." We'll forgive the slight exaggeration in size! The trophy stands 10 inches tall and is 11 inches wide. The trophy presents with heavy wear, heavy oxidation, many dents, but is intact and could most-likely be cleaned to present with more of its original luster. Very Good to Excellent condition.
