Offered is a Charles Conlon photograph of New York Yankee legend Lou Gehrig that was printed directly from his original glass plate negative that was part of The Sporting News archives of the Conlon Collection at the time. The print was made in 1991 at a time when our consignor was doing work with "Megacards" who had licensed the Gehrig image, and a Babe Ruth image, from the Conlon Collection. A May 28, 1991, letter to our consignor from the company accompanies the photo, and reads in part: "Per our discussion, I am enclosing tow contact prints for your use. You may keep the Lou Gehrig photo, but I would like to have the Babe Ruth one back." (Unfortunately he did send the Ruth back! But he kept the Gehrig!) Charles Conlon captures the supreme and quiet confidence of Lou Gehrig just before gametime in the Yankee dugout. The photo measures 5 x 7 inches, with a black border area, and presents in absolute Near Mint to Mint condition.
