Offered is an 8 x 10 inch photograph of a rookie Mickey Mantle, used for his 1951 Bowman Rookie Card, printed from the original negative in The Baseball Hall of Fame. The photograph was printed for our consignor in the 1990s while he was working on projects for The Baseball Hall of Fame. The "rights" sticker on the back states that "This photo is from the National Library & Archive photo collection." The photograph captures the young Mantle during the earliest moments of his career, wearing number "6" still, not his iconic "7". The jersey sleeves are not custom cut yet and had to rolled, and he's holding a bat of a teammate because he has yet to receive his own "signature" model H & B bats. The print also shows the same photographic artifacts of known prints from 1951, issued by the Yankees, in the form of scratches and defects. One of these 1951 prints sold for more than $70,000. Accompanying the photo are a copy of a November 5, 1997, letter on Baseball Hall of Fame letterhead from the time our consignor worked for them, as well as a business card for The Hall's Staff Photographer at the time, Milo Stewart. Also included is a later reprint of Mickey Mantle's 1951 Bowman Rookie Card. The photograph measures 8 x 10 inches and presents in Near Mint to Mint condition.
