Being chosen as one of the Jaycees Ten Most Outstanding Young Men for 1970 was one of Elvis’ proudest moments. Offered is a pristine copy of the original Jaycees program from the “Ten Outstanding Young Men” Awards Banquet in January 1971, at which Elvis was honored as a recipient of the award. Elvis took great pride in this distinction—it is one of his more coveted awards. The banquet was held in Memphis, Tenn. and Elvis was so honored by this recognition that he accepted the award in person. This is the only award Elvis would accept in person and give a speech about. A copy of the offered booklet was given to everyone who attend that year’s festivities. The other gentlemen honored included: Atkins, Thomas I., 31 - Municipal Affairs; Bucha, Paul W., 27 - Military Service; Capecchi, Mario R., 32 - Biological Research; Cherry, Harry W., 35 - Business; Coll, Edward T., 30 - Voluntary Service; Goetz, James B., 34 - State Affairs; Humann, Walter J., 33 - Business; Todaro, Dr. George, 33 - Medicine; and Ziegler, Ronald L., 31 - National Affairs. Elvis was certainly in good company, which is likely one of the reasons this award meant so much to him. The program book measures 9 x 7 inches. The program's front cover is without distress, though both covers have areas of discoloration. Excellent to Mint condition.
