Encapsulated PSA/DNA TYPE 1. Offered is a 1922 original news service photo of Babe Ruth and local San Antonio beauty Blanch McGarity. Ruth was in San Antonio for a preseason game against the Brooklyn Dodgers, and while there became part of a promotional film produced by the Chamber of Commerce. The film was titled Little Miss Bluebonnet, and starred McGarity as a local girl showing viewers the sites around town, including the local Texas League ballpark that happened to be hosting the New York Yankees and Babe Ruth! McGarity had won a contest to “replace” Mary Pickford as the new “IT” girl in 2019, but the offered photo may be the only physical evidence of her shortlived career. Ruth, on the other hand, soared to legendary status in the years to come. The back stamping reads “Finished by H.C. Rees Opt. Co. San Antonio, Tex. / 407 E. Houston St.” The Type 1 photograph measures 8 x 10 inches and presents with moderate creasing, mostly on the perimeter, and an area of paper loss in the upper right corner. Technically Excellent condition, but the image area maintains bold contrast.
