Gospel music was near and dear to Elvis’ heart, and in 1971 he hired J.D. Sumner and The Stamps Quartet as his backup band. That same year, J.D. Sumner purchased the National Quartet Convention, founded by Sumner and the Blackwood brothers in 1957. The National Quartet Convention was a three-day event that featured all major gospel groups and was held mainly in Memphis until 1972, when it was moved to Nashville. Offered is a National Quartet Convention check signed by J.D. Sumner and dated July 22, 1975, for the rent of an auditorium. Also included is a full page ad from the November 6, 1965, issue of Billboard magazine featuring The Stamps Quartet. Accompanied by a COA from Beckett Authentication. The check measures approximately 3 by 8 1/4 inches and presents with expected wear from handling. Near Mint condition.
