Offered is an RIAA Gold Record Award for Elvis Presley's 1969 hit "Suspicious Minds." The record was released on August 1, 1969, and certified gold by the RIAA on October 28, 1969. The offered award was produced in that period based on the early white linen matte style. The plaque reads: “Presented to RCA to Commemorate the Sale of More Than One Million Copies of the RCA RECORDS Pop Single Record 'SUSPICIOUS MINDS.'”
The song was recorded during Elvis' famous January 1969 sessions at American Sound Studio in Memphis. Elvis was convinced by Marty Lacker, George Klein and Felton Jarvis to agree to the recording session with Chips Moman. Lincoln “Chips” Moman, one of the founders of Stax Records who produced over 150 hit records from his small, fairly new studio, postponed a pre-arranged session with Neil Diamond to record with Elvis in his studio upon the last-minute request. These American Sound Studio sessions would be some of the most pivotal in Elvis’ career and would mark the turning point in Elvis’ re-creation of himself. "Suspicious Minds" reached number on in 1969, and the session also produced Elvis' recordings of "Kentucky Rain," "Hey Jude," and "In the Ghetto." The award measures 13 1/4 x 17 1/4 inches and presents with only mild toning to the white matte areas and mild wear to the wooden frame. Near Mint condition.
