Offered is a group of six colorized movie stills promoting films of Elvis Presley. Black and white movie stills were distributed to movie theatres in great numbers for decades until the 1990s, and Elvis Presley's films were no exception. The 8 x 10 inch glossy photos often include some of the best images from a particular film, but they are not considered at all scarce. The offered group, however, are rarely seen by Elvis collectors.

The color added to the photos gives them a “hand-tinted” effect, and create an incredible effect, bringing Elvis right off the surface. The group includes:

  • 1959 Loving You (re-release, the NSS # is listed as “”R95/175” but this is a known misprint);
  • 1957 Jailhouse Rock;
  • 1959 King Creole (re-release);
  • 1960 G.I. Blues;
  • 1960 Flaming Star; and
  • 1961 Blue Hawaii.

The Flaming Star photo's colors are so reminiscent of the famous Andy Warhol artworks that utilized this very image that one wonders if the artist might have seen one of these...which would have been used in movie theatres right around the time he was learning to silkscreen. Hm... The photos emanate from the collection of Jean and Pam Drew, co-Presidents of the “EP Continentals” fan club from Chicago, and the reverse of the Blue Hawaii has their stamping on it. The photos all measure 8 x 10 inches and present with only minor wear. Near Mint condition overall.
