Mae West was one of the most controversial movie stars of her day, and she was often the target of censors because of her sex symbol status. She once quipped, "I believe in censorship. I made a fortune out of it." She bucked the system by making comedy out of conventional mores, and her Depression-era audience admired her for it. Her career spanned over 70 years, from vaudeville to Broadway to Hollywood to television. Her classic films include I'm No Angel, Go West, Young Man, My Little Chikadee and She Done Him Wrong.
