Offered is an inspirational letter from Cosmopolitan magazine Editor Helen Gurley Brown discussing her heroes. The letter is dated August 19, 1980, and is on Cosmopolitan letterhead. It reads:
I wish I could be more helpful with your "hero survey." I'm afraid I just didn't have any! I think people should have heroes - people they can look up to - but in my teens I mostly tended to worship movie stars. They are not unadmirable but, of course, few of us are able to emulate them later in life. Anyone that I am advising - with or without their permission! 0 I suggest they just admire anybody - and everybody - who is working hard and succeeding in his particular field. That doesn't mean that all those people have honorable characters but at least they are getting there and doing it. There is no other way to become who you ought to become...you must put the time in and the effort. Later in life I began to admire people other than movie stars...Margaret Mead, Gloria Steinem, Dorothy Schiff (Publisher of the New York Post), Coretta King. None of these people influenced my life but they are simple admirable women.
Whew! Bring it Helen! Sage advice, and she throws a few names in for good measure. Accompanied by a COA from Beckett Authentic and an 8 x 10 inch photo of Brown. The letter measures 7 1/4 x 10 1/2 inches and presents in Near Mint condition.
