Offered is an original airbrush portrait painting by noted artist Dave Willardson of rock and roll legend Buddy Holly. The privately commissioned portrait, airbrushed guache on illustration board, presents the image of Holly which is seared into our collective consciousness, as the young rock and roll phemom ascending to fame. A small cricket sits upon his shoulder--nice touch, Dave. The artwork was featured on page 44 of Brad Benedict's 1980 book FAME, a collection of “portraits of celbrated people.” Willardson has signed the artwork in the lower right corner. Since the 1980s, Dave Willardson has been a world-renown Disney artist, creating original works of characters from the Magic Kingdom pantheon. But starting in the mid-1960s, Willardson created more than 150 original paintings for album covers, some reaching iconic status, such as Richie Blackmore's Rainbow, the American Graffiti soundtrack LP and Motely Crue's Theatre of Pain. He also designed the famous Rolling Stone cover from the August 15, 1974 and created the original logo for the Raiders of the Lost Ark movie poster. Accompanying the artwork is a copy of the book, . The painting measures 16 x 16 inches and is framed to a size of 21 x 21 inches. Near Mint to Mint condition.
