John Wayne Signed 1979 Letter Providing Info and Clarifications for a Saturday Evening Post Article - Amazing Content Incl. His Name, His Early Career, His Walk!

Offered is a fascinating signed letter from John Wayne to The Saturday Evening Post concerning a retrospective article in the upcoming December 1979 issue of the magazine. The letter clarifies several points, the most interesting of which is that Wayne did NOT copy his walk from the actor Yakima Canutt, but that he did lift his "half humorous glint in his eye" he had seen Canutt employ during real life brawls. He goes on to claim he "never used a mechanical horse" in his films, always doing his own riding and tell how studio exec Winfield Sheehan came up with his name "John Wayne." Another anecdote explains how Wayne actually was the one that suggested to "Jack Ford" to use Monument Valley as the location for Stagecoach, the legendary and iconic Ford western. He recalls how Ford returned from location scouting to tell Wayne about "the most colorful location that can ever be used for a picture" as if Wayne wasn't the one who recommended it!
