Offered is an RIAA Gold Record Award for Elvis Presley's debut, self-titled LP. Though the album was released on March 13, 1956, the RIAA didn't start certifying records gold until 1958. The LP's certification as Gold was originally done on November 1, 1966, but the offered award was produced in the mid to late 1970s, based on the "floater" design. It was not uncommon for record labels or artists to request more copies of past awards when they were needed for an executive or the artists needed another copy, say for a large trophy room like Elvis had at Graceland. Regardless, the offered award was produced with a batch in that period. The recording sessions for Elvis' debut album took place on January 10 and January 11 at the RCA Victor Studios in Nashville, Tennessee, and on January 30 and January 31 at the RCA Victor studios in New York. Additional material originated from sessions at Sun Records in Memphis, Tennessee, on July 5, August 19 and September 10 of 1954, and on July 11, 1955. This was of course the first rock and roll album ever to make it to the top of the charts and the first million-selling album. The award measures 17 x 21 inches and presents with slight scratches to the gold frame, but few other distresses. Near Mint condition.
