Offered is an RIAA Gold Record Award for Lynyrd Skynyrd's 1973 Debut LP (Pronounced 'Leh-'nérd 'Skin-'nérd). The first record from Skynyrd was released on August 13, 1973, and certified Gold by the RIAA on December 18, 1974. The band's popularity grew during 1973 and 1974 touring, and sales of their first record benefitted greatly when their next LP, Second Helping was a breakthrough hit. The offered "floater" style award was produced during that period. The award's plaque reads "Awarded to Gary Rossington to commemorate the sale of more than 500,000 copies of the MCA Records Long-Playing Record Album (Pronounced 'Leh-'nérd 'Skin-'nérd)." Sadly, Rossington, the last living founding member of Lynyrd Skynyrd, passed away just last month, on March 5, 2023. Gary was part of the band's trademark "Three Guitar Army" along with Allen Collins and Ed King. The band's first effort produced the soon-to-become classic rock songs "Gimme Three Steps", "Simple Man", "Tuesday's Gone", and, of course, "Free Bird", the last of which launched the band to national stardom. The award measures 17 x 21 inches and presents in Near Mint condition, with just a few distresses to the gold frame.
