Offered is an RIAA Gold Record Award for Lynyrd Skynyrd's 1974 LP Second Helping. Released on April 15, 1974, the record was certified Gold by the RIAA on September 20, 1974. The offered "floater" style award was produced during that period. The award's plaque reads "Awarded to Ronnie Van Zant to commemorate the sale of more than 500,000 copies of the MCA Records Long-Playing Record Album Second Helping." The record featured the band's biggest hit single, "Sweet Home Alabama," an answer song to Neil Young's southern-critical songs "Alabama" and "Southern Man." The band continued to grow its fan base while touring on their first two records, including a particularly successful opening gig with The Who on their Quadrophenia tour. The award measures 17 x 21 inches and presents in Near Mint condition, with just a few distresses to the gold frame.
