Offered is a police badge owned by Elvis Presley from the Morton Grove Police department in Morton Grove, Illinois. The badge was given to Elvis at one of his concerts in Chicago in the 1970s. Elvis' fascination with law enforcement is legendary, and his collection of badges given to him from various law enforcement agencies is well-known. Elvis would often get jurisdictions to give him his own badges, either in Memphis or anywhere in the country, but the offered badge is one given to Elvis from a local officer. One can imagine the gesture as the officer gladly handed over his badge and his satisfaction at the joy and gratitude on Elvis' face.
Elvis later gave the badge to his producer, Felton Jarvis, and a letter from Felton's nephew, Tony Frost accompanies. The letter reads in part "Wherever Elvis performed, police agencies would often give him gifts such as badges, uniforms, etc. This badge was one that was given out during Elvis' performance in Illinois. It was then given to my Uncle Felton as a gift or to hold till the tour ended." The badge is numbered "125" and features the Illinois state seal in the center. The makers mark on the reverse is for the "C.H. Hanson Co. Chicago"--Hanson had been making police badges since the 19th century. The silver colored badge shows signs of moderate to heavy use with no damage. Near Mint condition.
