In 1951, Hall of Fame slugger Mel Ott succeeded Chuck Dressen as manager of the Oakland Oaks of the Pacific Coast League and led the team to an 80–88 record and seventh place finish. In 1952, the Oaks finished 104-76 under Ott, which was good enough for second place in the PCL. Offered here is a blue velvet "soda jerk style" felt cap that was given away as a souvenir by the Oakland Tribune in 1952 honoring the hard-working Oaks manager. On one side, the hat reads (in white): “Follow the Oaks in the TRIBUNE” with the Oakland Oaks acorn mascot leaning on a bat. The opposite side shows a headshot of Ott with his name in facsimile autograph form, while the acorn mascot hits a baseball emblazoned with “Oaks ‘52” on it. This is a very well-preserved example of this souvenir. Near Mint condition.
