Offered is a Stan Mikita 1960 Game Used Victoriaville Hockey Stick. The "1960" stamping next to this stick's serial number dates it to Stan Mikita's second season, at the earliest, and possibly to his third season, 1960-61 when the Chicago Blackhawks won The Stanley Cup. "21" is handwritten on the shaft of this Victoriaville "Special Model" stick, and "1960 # 591454 MADE IN CANADA" is stamped on the bottom. The knob still maintains its game tape, as does the blade, which has sustained heavy use-related damage. Like the rest of the game sticks offered in this collection, the stick was acquired from the player or team staff at the Chicago Stadium by Dan Grubber. During his time setting nets for the Hawks, no other player wore #21 besides Hall of Famer Mikita.

The Chicago Blackhawks Net Setter Collection

Rockhurst Auctions is proud to present The Chicago Blackhawks Net Setter Collection. All the material presented in this collection emanates from the estate of Dan Grubber. As the story goes, Dan had seats on the ice for Chicago Blackhawks games, near one of the goals, at The Chicago Stadium. At a game in the mid-1960s, one of the Stadium crew asked Dan if he could help them set the net on the goal at that end. Dan agreed, and then amazingly continued to set the nets for the next 50 years. From The Stadium to The United Center, Dan gladly took care of his "job" at every home game during seven different decades.

During his long tenure, his unique access to team personnel prompted him to start collecting game used sticks and autographs from the team, and from a few of the opposing teams, as well. Dan became a part of The Blackhawks family, spending time with coaches, players and team employees outside of games for years and years. He was even honored with being on the ice to assist in raising of one of the Stanley Cup Champions banners at The United Center.

Sadly, Dan passed away in 2022, but he left us with an incredible collection of game used equipment and autographs with unrivaled provenance. From Hull to Makita, and Kane to Toews, Dan saw it all. We hope you enjoy perusing these wonderful relics as much as we have in bringing them to you.
