This is a stunning likely pre-production proof of no fewer than seven different promotional displays, four of which have a baseball theme, all spectacularly displayed on a giant poster that is 68-by-48 inches overall. The dominant portion, taking up fully 2/3 of the surface area, is artwork of Casey Stengel and his enthusiastic endorsement of Gillette Super Speed Razors, with an offer of a free Encyclopedia of Baseball with the purchase of the razor for $1.00. Along the outer perimeter of the piece are additional advertising pieces related to the promotion, as well as other pieces advertising Gillette's Foamy brand shaving cream, a Paper-Mate "Capri" brand pen, and an offer for Gillette razor blades. This extraordinary Stengel image is more commonly found on the easel-backed cardboard advertising displays for use in retail stores. Initially printed on giant poster sheets and cut down, this example may have been an advertising proof that was saved the indignity of being cut down. The result is an absolutely massive presentation, brilliant and colorful. Condition appears excellent, though edge wear is evident, with some tiny tears at edges and miniscule staining and minor wear at the folds.
