When placed in the wooden viewer and adjusted for the viewers eyes, the Champ is instantly in 3D, sitting at his piano in his Chicago home. Stereoviewers were a mighty advancement towards bringing people the wider world in the palm of their hand. Johnson became the first black world heavyweight boxing champion on December 26, 1908, with his victory over the reigning world champion, Canadian Tommy Burns, at the Sydney Stadium in Australia. His subsequent title defense in 1910 against retired champion James J. Jeffries was dubbed the "fight of the century." Johnson is considered the first civil rights hero of the 20th Century, not only for his exploits in the ring but also for his battle for equality in his peronal life.  The card measures 3 1/2 x 7 inches and presents slightly curled.
