Offered is a photograph of Lou Gehrig in the Yankee dugout on the fateful day his 2,130 consecutive game streak ended, May 2, 1939. The photograph was printed from the original negative housed in the "National Baseball Library and Archive" in The Baseball Hall of Fame. It was acquired by our consignor while doing work on projects for The Hall of Fame in the 1990s.The photo captures Lou looking out at the field, putting on a brave face, already knowing things are much worse than he has let on to his world of fans. The photo is accompanied by a copy of a letter from The Baseball Hall of Fame from 1997, describing the work done for the organization. The photograph measures 10 x 8 inches and is in Near Mint to Mint condition.
