Offered are programs for first and third fights between Muhammad Ali and Ken Norton, from March 31, 1973, in San Diego, and September 28, 1976, at Yankee Stadium, respectively. In the March 1973 fight, Ali was outmaneuvered by Norton's unorthodox fighting style, which involved jabbing from below and crossing his hands for defence. As the final bell rang, Norton won on a split decision, igniting a controversy in the boxing world. Soon after the fight, Ali was treated in hospital for a broken jaw, an injury sustained in the first round of the fight. The final 1976 battle went the distance, with Ali coming away with a controversial unanimous decision. Ali himself thought the judges gave him a highly favorable decision, and Norton felt just plain robbed when it was all said in done. Later analysis of the fight indicated that Norton landed more punches, a much higher percentage of his punches and more “power” punches. A ticket for the 1976 fight is also available in this auction. The programs both measure 8 ½ x 11 inches and present with only minor wear. Near Mint condition.
