The offered RIAA 4x Multi-Platinum Award was presented for Prince's 1982 LP 1999. The album was released on October 27, 1982, and it put Prince on another level as a performer--it was his breakout record in terms of a wider audience. The album was in the top 10 and "Delirious," "Little Red Corvette" and "1999" were all hits. The Rolling Stone Album Guide declared "1999 may be Prince's most influential album: Its synth-and-drum machine-heavy arrangements codified the Minneapolis sound that loomed over mid-'80s R&B and pop, not to mention the next two decades' worth of electro, house, and techno." It's a fact that Michael Jackson was influenced to push his sound on Thriller because of what he hear Prince doing. That's impact.
While the album hit Gold and Platinum in the first year of release, it was fitting that it took until March 24, 1999, for the album to hit 4x Multi-Platinum. The offered award was produced in that period. The plaque reads "Presented to PRINCE to commemorate the Sale of More Than 4,000,000 Copies of the WARNER BROS. RECORDS Album and Cassette '1999.'"
The award measures 17 x 21 inches and presents with only the most minor wear. Near Mint to Mint condition.
