The offered RIAA Gold Record Award for Elvis Presley's 1956 LP Elvis Presley was awarded to longtime RCA executive George Parkhill. Parkhill worked with Elvis for many years at RCA, and eventually went to work for Colonel Parker and Boxcar Productions in 1974. There are many photos of George on tour with Elvis over the years. The album was certified Gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) in November 1966 and Platinum in August 2011. The offered original white linen matte RIAA gold record award was created shortly after the LP achieved Gold status in 1966. Between 1958 and 1974, gold discs were awarded for album sales in excess of one million dollars. The framed award displays a plaque mounted beneath the gold record that reads, “Presented to GEORGE PARKHILL to commemorate the sale of more than one million dollars worth of the RCA RECORDS long-playing record album ‘ELVIS PRESLEY.’” This framed display features a gold-toned record above the gold-colored plaque with small image of the album cover, all mounted on a white linen background. The framed award measures 21 1/2 by 17 1/2 inches and presents with moderate wear to the wood frame, with scratches and scuffing, and some mild to moderate staining to the orignal white linen matte. Excellent condition.
