Mal Evans saw it all. He was there with the Beatles from the day Brian Epstein hired him as a roadie after meeting him as a bouncer at the Cavern Club, until the band broke up in 1970. The Beatles fame was so intense that characters in the entourage, like Evans and Neil Aspinall, became minor celebrities themselves, signing autographs like the one offered here. Evans writes "To Sheilah, Nice to see you. Malcom Evans Beatles Road Manager." (He also added a cartoon mouse-Mickey?) He appears in Beatles' films and even contributes to several recordings sessions. He hit the anvil for "Maxwell's Silver Hammer," ran the alarm clock and played one of the pianos for the last note of "A Day in the Life," and played tambourine on "Dear Prudence." After their touring days and his roadie days ended, he continued as an assistant for the the band and held positions at Apple Records. Evans autograph is exceedingly tough to come by because of his tragically early death at the hands of Los Angeles police in 1976--they mistook an air rifle for an actual rifle and shot him in his home. His post Beatles career was quite productive up until then, getting Apple Records to sign the band Badfinger, producing several of their songs, and cowriting "You and Me (Babe)" with Harrison. The track appeared on Starr's 1973 solo album Ringo (an Apple test pressing of the LP is available in this auction). The signed page is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Beckett Authentic. The autograph book page measures 6 1/4 x 4 inches and presents with just some mild toning. Near Mint condition.
