Daniel Broadhead distinguished himself fighting the British during the American Revolution, beginning as lieutenant colonel of a Pennsylvania regiment when the war broke out and eventually rising to head the “Western Department.” He saw action against the Indians and at the Battles of Long Island, Brandywine and Germantown. By war's end, he had been promoted to Brigadier General by General George Washington. The offered handwritten document dates from his time in 1766 in the British Military. His flourishing ink signature graces the bottom of a letter which concerns itself with the purchase of tents for his troops and an upcoming meeting. In the lower right corner, in another hand and written at a later date, is the notation “General of Revolution.” The document measures 7 ¾ x 6 1/8 inches and presents with its original folds but no major defects. Near Mint condition.
