The engraving reads “Champions ACIPCO 1931 Birmingham Amateur League.” American Cast Iron and Pipe (ACIPCO) was a Birmingham Industrial League powerhouse in this period, winning the League Championship all but a couple of years from the late 1920s to the early 1950s. The offered 1931 Championship trophy is from a streak of nine straight titles from 1928 to 1936! The league was very well-organized, with several company teams having their own ballparks that could hold close to 10,000 fans. The league's games were incredibly popular in Birmingham--the attendance at ACIPCO's Sloss field would often surpass that of the more established Negro League Birmingham Barons. The trophy was created by the Queen City Silver Co. of Cincinnati, Ohio, and the company's makers mark is visible on the bottom. The trophy stands 11 inches tall and is 5 inches wide. The trophy presents with a lustrous patina and has suffered some distress in the way of scratches and scuffs. It appears a figural piece may have been attached to the top-it is missing. Excellent condition.
